Child Development Apprenticeship Program

Most individuals are wearing navy blue "Mission College" t-shirts and have pink conference lanyards, suggesting they are attending or representing a college-related event, possibly a conference or workshop. The group appears cheerful, standing in front of a tree and a building with a tiled roof. There are palm trees and a modern office building visible in the background, indicating a California or West Coast setting. The atmosphere is casual and collaborative.

Santa Clara, CA -  Mission College proudly celebrated the participation of 20 dedicated participants from its Child Development Apprenticeship Program at the California Association for the Education of Young Children (CAAEYC) conference earlier this month. Held in Santa Clara, the event brought together students and professionals in Early Childhood Education (ECE) to learn, network, and share best practices.

Garima Sengar, one of the enthusiastic attendees, shared, “I learned how to make reading aloud more interactive by incorporating open-ended questions that encourage children's participation.” Her experience highlights the transformative learning opportunities available at the conference.

Larissa Cabrera, another attendee, expressed her excitement about the networking opportunities, saying, “I learned about curriculum approaches from different organizations like Frog Street. The keynote speaker, Lisa Murphy, was inspiring and relatable. Her stories motivated me to ensure every child feels seen every day.”

These insights are vital as Mission College apprentices work to implement professional development goals and classroom innovations.

Mission College is committed to equipping its students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in Child Development. Through experiences like the CAAEYC conference, students not only deepen their understanding but also connect with potential employers and professionals in the ECE sector.

Pedro Sousa, Instructor at Mission College, emphasized the importance of the conference: “This opportunity allows our apprentices to expand their knowledge and connect with employers and frontline professionals in the ECE field. The CAAEYC conference reinforces the numerous opportunities available to students in Early Childhood Education.”

As a program that values industry partnerships and professional connections, Mission College’s Child Development Apprenticeship Program continues to lead the way for future leaders in early childhood education.
