Hospitality Management students at Mission College gain real-world experience by running the Mission Bistro, serving gourmet meals every Tuesday and Thursday.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SANTA CLARA, CA -- At Mission College, students in the Hospitality Management program are getting more than just a classroom education—they're gaining hands-on experience running a full-service restaurant. Every Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Spring Semester, the Mission Bistro opens its doors to the community, offering gourmet meals at affordable prices while giving students a taste of the fast-paced culinary industry.

For the students serving the food and in the kitchen, the Bistro is more than just a training ground—it’s a fully operational dining experience. Over the course of the program, they rotate through every role, from student manager to dishwasher, line cook to cashier. Some days they lead the kitchen as a chef, while others they handle front-of-house service. The goal is to prepare them for the realities of the food industry, where adaptability and teamwork are essential.

"This is their opportunity to get real-life experience before they graduate and enter the industry," said Daniel Arias, chair of the Hospitality Management Department. "We train them in every aspect of running a restaurant so they’re ready to step into a professional kitchen the moment they leave here."

Diners who visit the Bistro not only enjoy expertly prepared meals but also play a crucial role in the students’ education. Guests provide real feedback, helping students refine their skills and learn what it takes to meet customer expectations.

Beyond lunch service, the Bistro also offers catering, providing authentic and customized menu options for private events. The catering operation allows students to further develop their skills in large-scale meal preparation, event planning, and customer service.

For those looking for a gourmet lunch without the hassle of dressing up or making a reservation, the Mission Bistro is the perfect spot. With its professional yet welcoming atmosphere, many locals return week after week.

"Even though this is a training program, we serve real food to real guests for real money," said Haze Dennis, instructor of the Hospitality Management Department. "Our students take pride in what they do, and it shows in every meal they serve."
