FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SACRAMENTO, CA -- State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond proudly unveiled the recipients of the prestigious California Exemplary Dual Enrollment Award earlier this month. Among the distinguished list of nine schools across California was Mission Early College High School of the Santa Clara Unified School District and in partnership with Mission College. The school was recognized for its exceptional commitment to providing students with transformative educational opportunities.

The California Exemplary Dual Enrollment Award recognizes schools that have demonstrated outstanding dual enrollment programs, serving as models of excellence and equity within the state's public education system. These programs offer high school students the chance to accelerate their academic progress, embark on promising career pathways, and access tuition-free college courses prior to high school graduation.

Superintendent Thurmond emphasized the significance of these programs, stating, "Dual enrollment initiatives represent a beacon of excellence and equitable opportunity within California's public schools. They empower students to achieve their full potential, regardless of background or circumstance."
To qualify for the award, schools underwent a rigorous evaluation process, showcasing excellence across multiple criteria. This included evidence of robust collaboration among high schools, colleges, families, community stakeholders, and industry partners. Additionally, awardees demonstrated a commitment to equity, integration of college and district plans, dual credit offerings, outcome-driven data collection, well-defined pathways, and comprehensive student support services.
