COU 000A: Orientation to Mission College
Perfect for New Students Planning to Transfer or Earn a Degree.
This course provides new students with basic information needed to attend college. It includes an orientation to Mission College programs and services, registration procedures, an overview of general education requirements, and Educational Planning.

College Success Courses
COU 005 • STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS 3.0 units
This survey course includes a study of the following topics: role of education in
life, college systems, effective learning strategies, academic survival, career information,
awareness of personal development and techniques of interpersonal communication.
COU 007 or 007H (HONORS) • UNIVERSITY TRANSFER PLANNING 1.0 unit
This course is designed to enable students to actively participate in planning their
educational and career goals by providing information about the process and requirements
for transferring from a community college to a university.
Students cannot get credit for both COU 007 and COU 007H. Enrollment in the Honors
Transfer Project is required for COU 007H.
COU 017 • TRANSFER SUCCESS AND LIFE TRANSITIONS 3.0 units
The course is designed specifically for students interested in successfully navigating
the process of transferring to a university covering topics such as decision making;
degree options; university systems and transfer programs; money management and financial
aid; effective communication; unique transitional considerations for transfer students;
and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Career and Major Exploration Courses
COU 012 • CAREERS AND LIFESTYLES 3.0 units
This course focuses on career, personal and educational awareness as they relate to
the process of career choice and major selection covering topics such as personal
interests, values, abilities and skills and use self-assessment instruments to help
them identify career options.
COU 012A • CAREERS AND LIFESTYLES 1.0 unit
This course assists students in exploring individual interests through the use of
a variety of career assessments. The focus is on career, personal and educational
awareness as they relate to the process of career choice and major selection.
COU 012C • CAREERS AND LIFESTYLES 1.0 unit
This course assists students in the area of job search skills. Students learn to market
themselves using resume writing and interview skills, and to identify different types
of skills and how they relate to job requirements.

COU 055 • VALUING DIVERSITY 3.0 unitsThis course addresses the complexities of interpersonal relationships among and between several cultures and ethnic groups within our society, examining topics such as cultural perceptions, communication styles, religion, gender, ageism, and lifestyles in order to promote respect for differences and develop a sense of community.
