AI Innovation and Integration: Centering Humanity, Equity, and Access
As Mission College prepares to celebrate 50 years of excellence, the College is also
boldly looking ahead. In FY 2025–2026, Mission College launched the AI Innovation
and Integration Taskforce to explore how artificial intelligence can responsibly support
teaching, learning, and service, without compromising our deeply human values. This
cross-functional group is charged with developing an equity-centered, ethical framework
for AI adoption that prioritizes access, protects students and employees, and closes,
not widens, equity gaps.
Rather than chasing trends, this work focuses on intentional innovation: understanding
current uses of AI, identifying opportunities to support student success and creativity,
streamlining systems, and preparing the campus community through professional learning
and dialogue. The Taskforce will also lead planning for an AI Summit in Spring 2026,
creating space for shared learning and collective visioning as technology continues
to evolve.
Reimagining Our Mascot and Athletics Identity
In celebration of Mission College’s 50th anniversary, the College undertook a participatory
process to reimagine a core element of its identity: the college mascot and athletics
logo. Through surveys, town halls, and feedback sessions, more than 1,000 students
and employees engaged in shaping a symbol that reflects who we are today and where
we are headed. This inclusive process resulted in the selection of the Monarch Lions as Mission College’s new mascot, honoring resilience, pride, and collective strength
as we revitalize athletics and campus spirit for generations to come.
Participatory Governance and Decision-Making Handbook
Mission College published its Participatory Governance and Decision-Making Handbook
to provide transparency and clarity around how decisions are made and how shared leadership
is practiced across the campus. This living document reflects the College’s commitment
to equity, inclusion, and trust, ensuring that students, faculty, classified professionals,
and administrators all have meaningful pathways to participate in shaping the future
of Mission College.
Strategic Education Master Plan (SEMP) Year-One Progress
Following the adoption of the 2024–2027 Strategic Education Master Plan, Mission College
released its Year-One SEMP Progress Report, highlighting institutional outcomes aligned
with the five MC STARS goals. These results were shared with the campus community
at the 2025 Institutional Effectiveness Summit, where the College reflected on progress,
assessed areas for growth, and reaffirmed its commitment to continuous improvement
and student-centered outcomes.
Event Planning Best Practices for Communication and Impact
To strengthen communication, alignment, and efficiency across campus initiatives,
the Event Planning Work Group, led by the Vice President of Student Services, developed
comprehensive best practices for college-wide event planning. These guidelines support
intentional, goal-driven events that align with the College’s Communication Plan and
maximize impact while honoring campus capacity and resources.
