Sandra joined Mission College in 2018, and since then has had the pleasure of working with the CalWORKs/EOPS department, mainly serving our parenting students. She currently serves as a Student Success Coach for the NextUp program.

Born and raised in Mexico, Sandra Quintero migrated to the U.S. at the age of nine with her mother and two sisters in search of the American Dream. During this journey, Sandra and her sisters were separated from their mother, and left to stay in a small home located in Tijuana with strangers who called themselves "coyotes". In her own words, "This experience left us scarred, and I promised myself not to let this trauma be in vain. Regardless of the cultural shock, I overcame all adversities and hurdles that followed being an immigrant Spanish monolingual-speaking child." 

Sandra joined Mission College in 2018, and since then has had the pleasure of working with the CalWORKs & EOPS department, mainly serving our parenting students. She currently serves as a Student Success Coach for the NextUp program. She states that,"As a first-generation, single mother, parenting student, and working parent, I see myself being the perfect lens for the needs of many of our students." 

In 2022, Sandra began serving as a special population success coach where she's had the honor and privilege to work with an array of diverse student populations. Sandra is actively pursuing entry into local nursing programs. In the meantime, she is pursuing a Master's in Public Health from San Jose State University and plan to transfer in Spring 2024.

Fun Facts

Sandra enjoys hiking, working out at her local gym, and dancing. She also loves beach days with friends and family. She values education and personal growth. A member of the Aztec Dance Community in the Bay Area, Sandra performs in schools to spread cultural awareness.

Every year in October, Sandra attends the Indigenous People's Day Sunrise Gathering Ceremony held at Alcatraz Island to honor the Ohlone people and their ancestor.
